Important Notice Regarding NZQA Results

As many of you will now be aware from Facebook and our Website there were errors in the earthquake-related Derived Grades file sent by the school to NZQA.

Over recent days we have been working to understand and correct these errors. The corrected file has now been forwarded to NZQA and they are inserting it into their system; the resulting corrected grades are likely to be available on the NZQA website toward the end of this coming week - this is the earliest time by which the changes can be processed.

Please take note of the following points:-

  1. The NZQA process takes the better of the school examination mark and the school provided Derived Grade. If they are the same the examination grade is awarded.
  2. The results that have been on the NZQA website over the last week must not be taken as accurate or final. Do not use these results for any applications to other learning institutions or for job applications.
  3. We will email you all when we can confirm the NZQA website is showing the correct data.
  4. The nature of the error may result in higher or lower grades being awarded. Similarly some may, with the corrected data, now meet the standards required to gain a qualification while others could now find that they have not, at this stage, met the qualification requirements.
  5. When the corrected grades are available some will still be dependent on the quality of work evident in the examination; if a 'reasonable effort' was not made in the examination a higher derived grade cannot and will not be awarded.

In particular, some students who had examination papers/scripts graded 'N' will be required to bring one or more of these papers to school so that they can be assessed for the quality of effort.

For all students: Your examination papers/scripts must be stored safely for at least one month after they are returned - this allows them to be reviewed as necessary.

I apologise for the inconvenience that this has caused, but you can be assured that with erroneous data corrected you will now be getting the grades that you justly earned.

If you have any further questions please contact the school or email: and put "NZQA results enquiry" in the subject line.

Regards

Mr McIntyre
Headmaster
