A Christchurch teen, CBHS student, rugby team mate, pharmacy delivery boy and a much-loved son and older brother of Allan, Pip and Ben up until January 2016 was a healthy energetic 15 year old doing all the things parents love seeing their kids do. Out of the blue, in January 2017, he was struck down by Guillain Barre Syndrome. Overnight he went from having some inexplicable weakness in his hands and feet, to being airlifted from Nelson to Intensive Care at Christchurch Hospital. He was on a ventilator for five months, unable to speak, move or breathe on his own. Alex was transferred to the Burwood Hospital Spinal Unit, remains paralyzed from the chest down and is a tetraplegic.
