ACCOMMODATION
All International students enrolled at Christchurch Boys' High School must be
living with a parent and school-approved homestay, guardian or designated
caregiver (guardian or other adult chosen by your parents). As well as being
an excellent way for you to learn about New Zealand culture, your English
skills will be put to use.
- Homestay board is $210.00 per week and consists of a heated single bedroom and study facilities, three meals per day, a daily shower, clean linen, towels and personal laundry at least weekly. The homestay family is expected to actively support the boarder’s personal, social and academic life.
- Your guardian will maintain regular contact with students, homestay parents and parents overseas ensuring that there are no problems.
- Homestay and/or guardianship fees should be paid to the school at the time of payment of tuition fees.
GUARDIANSHIP
All International students enrolled at Christchurch Boys' High School must have a school-approved guardian.Your guardian will:
- Be the contact person for the school
- Work with the school in monitoring your progress
- Be available at any time for your support and protection
HOMESTAYS IN NEW ZEALAND
A homestay will provide you with:- A warm, comfortable furnished room with study facilities
- Three meals a day
- Laundry services
- Reasonable house rules for your guidance and for you to respect
- Encourage you to participate in the family’s activities and events and help you with your English
- Regular contact with the homestay co-ordinator and/or your guardian to make sure you are happy in your homestay
- Friendship, care and guidance.
- A safe physical and emotional environment, conducive to studying
A typical New Zealand home may have 3 bedrooms, living rooms, kitchen, bathroom and laundry.
New Zealand homes are not in high-rise buildings. They are usually single or double storey.
Most homes have a garden and usually have pets, eg dog or cat.
All homestays arranged through the school have been assessed for suitability in compliance with the processes set out in the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students.
If you would like the school to arrange homestay/guardianship, complete the homestay request form and return it to the school with your enrolment form.
