Guardianship Agreement

Conditions on the Providers

The Guardian agrees to: meet the student at the airport or other point of arrival on request and provide transport to the homestay resident; introduce the student to her/his homestay provider; monitor student adjustment to homestay situation; mediate between student and homestay provider when disputes arise; relocate student to new homestay when disputes cannot be resolved; refer disputes of a serious or legal matter to the Principal of the school; facilitate the purchase of uniform and other essential school supplies.

In addition The Guardian agrees to: be available at enrolment and/or course selection time to give advice and guidance on the subject choice; be present at parent-teacher report evenings; monitor attendance of student at school, and act on requests from form teacher, dean, assistant/deputy principal; monitor academic progress and consult with subject teachers on related matters; assist student to engage in co-curricular activities of the school.

In addition The Guardian agrees to: provide individual counselling to identify and resolve difficulties between the student and the school; provide advice and practical assistance for medical, emotional and legal problems (including immigration requirements); implement a suitable play of action to rectify problems that may be faced by a student; advise the school of difficulties and progress towards their resolution.

Conditions on the Student

The Student agrees: to abide by the regulations and expectations of the school; purchase comprehensive medical travel insurance valid for the entire stay; seek permission from the Guardian (who may deem it necessary to contact parents/caregivers) when an adventure activity is undertaken; forgo the right or privilege of driving a motor vehicle; give the Guardian the authority to act in a medical emergency/hospitalisation, when parents are unable to be contacted; abide by the no smoking, no alcohol, no drug taking rules of the school.

In addition The Student agrees to: contact by telephone the Guardian if the student is to sleep or stay away overnight from their homestay (one night or more). If the student is going to be absent from school for any reason eg appointments, illness, etc. they must telephone the Guardian, (either speak to the Guardian or leave a message on the answer phone).
