Nick after a training session with Canterbury Crusader Steve Brett

Hi, my name is Nicholas Holton, and I am an international student from South Africa. I have been at Christchurch Boys’ High for four and a half months and have loved every minute of it!

The reason why I came to New Zealand was to play rugby and see what it’s like to study and live in a different environment. The way of living was very different to what I was used to in South Africa which was great! The students at Boys’ High are very privileged to have the facilities that they do. I think that the level of teaching was excellent which made classes a lot more enjoyable. Outdoor Pursuits was my favourite subject because we got to do many things that I don’t have the opportunity to do back at home like skiing and kayaking.

Christchurch Boys’ High has a proud reputation for producing fine rugby players and I can see why! I was fortunate to play rugby for both Boys’ High and Canterbury during my stay. I was given lots of opportunities to improve as a player which I tried to make the best of at all times.

Staying in a home stay was a great experience! The family that I stayed with made me feel very welcome and made me part of the family right away which helped me settle in quickly.

The boys at school were very friendly towards me which helped me to make many friends from many different cultures.

I have had the chance to see different parts of New Zealand which truly a beautiful country!

The friends that I have made and the experiences that I have had are unforgettable! I definitely have no regrets about coming to New Zealand!
