Hey my name is Jesus but you can call me Billy. I come from Chile and I am staying in NZ for a year. I have already been here for about six and half months and I am studying at Christchurch Boys' High School (CBHS).
My experience here has been amazing, everything is just so different compared to my country. Especially the school; in Chile you have to do 13 subjects, and they are all compulsory, here in NZ you can take 5, and you choose them, with plenty of options. There are also subjects that you don't have in any country, like for example, Outdoor Pursuits, which is the one that I most enjoy. We have been rock climbing, kayaking, skiing, cycling, sleeping in snow caves, going tramping, and learning stuff that you will never forget and that is very important for your life. I also took Calculus, Physics, Physical Education and English, which are fun as well, and different way of teaching.
The people are very friendly, and I love how they love sports, especially rugby which is the sport that I love. I have made a lot of friends here in CBHS.
My host family in NZ is amazing as well. I am so lucky to have them as a home stay family, it wouldn't have been the same without them, they are so nice with me, and they also like most of the things that I like. So that has been great and very helpful for developing my experience here in NZ.
I love NZ and I really want to come back one day and visit my NZ people, all my friends, NZ family, teachers, exchange coordinators, etc. It's been such a great time and I will never forget it. I also suggest to the people who haven't thought about going overseas, to take the opportunity, and make the most of it, because it's just one of those things that you will love, and never forget. I want to say thanks to Tracey Hames as well, because she does her job so good, she loves what she do, and she makes sure that every international student who goes to CBHS, has a lovely time.
