Asher Pettengell-Brand awarded a Gold Blazer for Athletics

Year 13 student Asher Pettengell-Brand was presented with his gold blazer pocket at the Founders Day assembly.

A Gold Blazer Pocket Award is awarded to boys who achieve exceptional merit at the highest schoolboy level in their sport, and in a sport that CBHS has representation. This would usually mean that they have been selected for a New Zealand Secondary Schools or U18 team in a sport participated in by a CBHS First Team.  They also must display the values of sportsmanship, outstanding character and conduct, and meet the requirements of the CBHS Sports Code of Conduct.

In early April Asher competed at the National Track and Field Championships in Hastings and was crowned national U18 champion in the 200m. Following this remarkable achievement Asher was selected in the NZ Track and Field team to compete in the Oceania Championship’s in Australia in June. Asher will compete in the U18 200m, as well as the U18 4x100m and 4x400m relay team.

This is fantastic recognition for an athlete who has represented CBHS for 5 years, and who is a role model for the junior boys in the squad. Also a talented rugby player Asher this year he put his 1st XV ambitions aside to realise his dream of representing NZ on the track and wearing the black singlet.

The school wishes Asher every success for the Oceania’s in June.
