Te Kura Kahurangi
The meaning of the CBHS Whakataukī , Te Kura Kahurangi, is “Treasures descended from the heavens”. It is also the name given for the Korowai worn by the Headmaster of CBHS and it aligns with our motto, Altiora Peto I seek higher things.
Kura means both school and is an ancient word (still in use) referring to treasure. Kahurangi also has a dual meaning, the first being blue, the second being a compound word that stems from ‘Te Kahu o te rangi’ meaning the cloak of the sky. The word Kura also links to Te Kura Street and the Te Kura Trust.
The whakataukī acknowledges the dual history of CBHS and our surroundings and reflects CBHS’ commitment to giving effect to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
