Emily was elected to the Board of Trustees in September 2022. She values the importance of continuity of knowledge and experience, particularly with several long-serving members stepping down. Emily is committed to supporting the Headmaster, Senior Leadership Team, and staff in their work to provide the very best for the boys.

Since joining the Board, Emily has chaired the People and Wellbeing Committee, served on the Adams House Committee, and contributed across a range of subcommittees.

Professionally, she is a solicitor and principal at Mortlock McCormack Law, leading the Relationship Property and Family Team. Emily also sits on the Canterbury Earthquakes Insurance Tribunal, serves on the Natural Hazards Commission Dispute Resolution Panel, and is a member of the Arbitrators and Mediators Institute of New Zealand.

Emily and her husband have been part of the local community for many years. Their son is currently in Year 13 at Christchurch Boys’ High School, and their two daughters attended Christchurch Girls’ High School and are now studying at the University of Canterbury and the University of Otago.

Nic has been Headmaster at Christchurch Boys’ High School since June of 2013. He is the school’s 11th Headmaster.

Originally from the Hawkes Bay, Nic has taught at Wellington College and Waitaki Boys’ High School. Nic is very proud of his association with Christchurch Boys’ High School.

He believes it is a school with a strong sense of community and identity, he calls these the Boys’ High advantages, and these characteristics lead to outstanding achievement and a sense of individual self worth.

Paula’s son is currently in Year 11 at the school, and she and her husband have been consistently impressed by the strong emphasis on values, relationships, and student wellbeing. They have also greatly appreciated the high calibre of personable, capable, and professional teachers who are committed to supporting the development of boys into Fine Young Men.

Professionally, Paula is the Deputy Principal of Paparoa Street Primary School, a contributing school to CBHS, and brings 30 years of teaching experience, including 20 years in school leadership. She offers extensive knowledge and insight into setting strategic direction and targets, with a strong focus on continuous improvement.

Paula believes the role of a Board of Trustees is guardianship through governance—ensuring the school runs efficiently while prioritising student wellbeing, learning, and progress in a safe and inclusive environment. Paula is committed to representing the parent community and supporting the school leadership team and staff.

Nick has a strong connection with CBHS through his son in Year 10 and his involvement with Adams House. He and his wife have raised their children in rural North Canterbury, guided by values closely aligned with those of the school and hostel community. He is committed to ensuring that structure, standards, and clear expectations continue to benefit students in a supportive environment.

Professionally, Nick has extensive experience in rural banking and corporate agribusiness, leading a team across the top half of the South Island for New Zealand’s second-largest financier. His career has been people-focused, emphasizing relationship-building, collaboration, and practical leadership—skills he brings to his governance role.

With a background in professional sport and coaching provincial teams, alongside a postgraduate certificate in commerce with distinction, Nick combines practical, people-centered experience with a commitment to growth, continuous improvement, and constructive oversight. He aims to support the Board in maintaining CBHS’s legacy and fostering an inclusive, high-achieving environment for all students.

Todd was co-opted onto the CBHS Board of Trustees at the end of 2024. This opportunity enabled him to gain an understanding of the complexities and responsibilities involved in governing a school of such heritage and ambition.

Todd and his family have been part of the CBHS community since 2021. His eldest son is currently in Year 13, while his youngest will begin at CBHS next year. As a parent, Todd has seen first-hand the school’s commitment to its mission of developing fine young men who are prepared to thrive in a modern world.

This is a pivotal time for CBHS. With the revitalisation of the school’s buildings and facilities now substantively complete, the Board is uniquely positioned to focus on the elements that underpin the school: academic excellence, sporting achievement, cultural enrichment, and the arts. This focus is particularly significant in light of the recently proposed changes to NCEA, and Todd is excited about the opportunity to contribute to these areas through thoughtful governance and strategic oversight.

Professionally, Todd serves as the Chief Executive of Ngāi Tahu Holdings Corporation. This role has equipped him with extensive leadership and governance experience, along with a deep understanding of iwi values and cultural context. Todd believes this perspective can add meaningful value to the Board as it continues to foster an inclusive and future-focused environment for all students.

Todd is committed to working collaboratively with fellow trustees, school leadership, and the wider CBHS community to ensure that every young man who walks through the gates of CBHS is supported to reach his full potential.

David, an Old Boy of CBHS and Adams House, continues a family legacy with his father also being a CBHS Old Boy. He and his wife have one son currently at CBHS, another starting in 2026, and a daughter at Mayfield.

With a background in agribusiness, international project management, and 18 years in banking leadership, David now operates a Mid Canterbury farm focused on sustainable practices and developing New Zealand’s next generation of farmers. He also holds governance roles in farming and community organisations.

A strong supporter of single-sex education for boys, David is committed to maintaining CBHS’s traditions while ensuring students receive a high-quality, well-rounded education grounded in strong moral values. He looks forward to contributing to the school’s future as a member of the Board of Trustees.
