Edward Richards (Boxing) selected to represent New Zealand at the Oceania Youth Games in Samoa
Over the past 3 months Edward Richards has been part of the New Zealand Boxing Development Squad, with an end goal being the Oceania Youth Games to be held in Samoa at the end of May. He has attended training camps in Auckland and Wellington over the past 3 months for this.
Last weekend was the “box off” for Youth games places; these were held during the Wellington and Hutt Valley championships. Edward drew the semi-final and then had to box the current NZ number 1 who was undefeated for almost 3 years for a place in the final. Ed got that win and then claimed gold in the final.
Edward has now qualified and has been selected to go to Samoa and fully represent New Zealand at the Oceania Youth Games. He will have an amazing opportunity to not just meet fellow boxers but also coaches and develop his skill even more. This gives Edward the opportunity to qualify for the World Championships in Mexico later in the year.
