Gold Sports Awards celebrated Thursday 28 October


A Gold school colour allows the recipient to have the sport and year embroidered in GOLD on the right pocket of their blazer. Qualifications to be considered for the award are:

  • Exceptional merit at the highest schoolboy level in the sport concerned, and representation for the school. This is usually selection in a New Zealand Secondary Schools team or at U18, U19 and U20 level.
  • Recipients also must display sportsmanship and general character and conduct in line with the CBHS Sports Code of Conduct

Kalhan Challu

Kalhan is in his second year of the CBHS Cricket 1st XI. Last year he was the highest run scorer and member of the national championship winning 1st XI team. In 2021 he was selected for the NZ U19 World Cup squad and is awarded his Gold Blazer for cricket.

Charlie Swan

Charlie is playing in his 4th year for the CBHS 1st Hockey XI, and is captain of this year. Charlie has made over 90 appearances for the 1st Xl and is also in the 1st XI cricket team this year. Charlie was selected for the NZ U18 hockey squad in August and is awarded his Gold Blazer for 2021

Raunaq Kapur

Raunaq is playing in his second season for the 1st Cricket XI and was a member of the national championship winning Gillette team in 2020. This year he is captain of the 1st XI and also represented the school in the 1st XI hockey team. Like Kalhan Raunaq has been selected in the NZ U19 World Cup squad and is awarded a Gold Blazer for cricket in 2021

Jackson Fontaine

Many at school will not be aware that CBHS has an ice hockey team and that ice hockey is an official sport at CBHS. Up until 2019 the school was able to field a standalone team but for the last two years we have joined with St Andrews to enter teams in South Island and National events.

Jackson has been a member of the 1st ice hockey team since 2018 and Canterbury U18 team since 2019. This year he was selected for the NZ U18 team. Jackson is awarded a Gold Blazer for ice hockey in recognition of his NZ representative selection.

Mitch McMillan

Mitch is playing his second full season for the CBHS 1st Cricket XI and was a member of the Gillette Cup winning team in 2020 with Kalhan and Raunaq. In 2020 Mitch was selected for an extended NZ U19 squad and has backed this up in 2021 for again being selected for higher NZ honours. For his selection in the NZ U19 squad Mitch is awarded his Gold Blazer for cricket
