Old Boy Elliott Connolly selected for the Commonwealth Games Squad (NZ Judo)
It has been a big week for Old Boy Elliott Connolly who has been selected in the New Zealand team, for this year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Elliott who was a student at Boys’ High from 2007-2011 has been selected as one of seven Judo New Zealand athletes for the games. It will be the first Commonwealth Games for Elliott, who has previously competed at World Championship level.
In 2009, while he was in year 11, Elliott participated in a competition after having had some time out, winning the competition convincingly. It was at this time as he stood on the podium, that he knew he wanted more. After leaving Boys’ High he was selected in the NZL Junior Squad in 2013, competing in Cairns. From there, he earned selection in the senior New Zealand team, competing in Apia, Samoa at the Oceania Championships.
