Touch – South Island Secondary Schools’ Championships

The South Island Secondary Schools Touch Championships were held in Christchurch from 20 – 21 March.

During pool play the CBHS Senior A team beat St Andrews 7 – 1 before losing in a close one to John McGlashan College 6 – 7. Good wins from then over Nelson College 9 – 2 and Otago Boys High School 9 – 6 set up a semi final against the 2020 New Zealand Secondary Schools runners up Kings High from Dunedin.

Tries to Sam Vincent, Cooper Haines, Hoani Stewart, Jorden Bristow and Jacob Hawkins and two to Luca Tracey was enough for the boys to get up 7 – 5 for a great win.

This rewarded the boys with a trip to the final where they came up against John McGlashan, the team who beat them in the pool play. History would not repeat on this occasion however and with two tries each to Luca Tracey, Hugh Ferguson and Max Ogata-Johnston as well as one each Hoani Stewart and Ollie Burra CBHS were crowned South Island champions with a deserved 8 – 4 victory.
