Triathlon – New Zealand Schools’ Triathlon – Will Allott

It has been a busy month for Year 10 student Will Allott as he has mixed Triathlon with Athletics with some good results in both.

The month started for Will with the South Island Secondary Schools Triathlon in Oamaru. Competing in the Junior Boys’ section, Will was a convincing winner of that event in 38.53. Nine days later and he was on the track at Nga Puna Pai contesting the Canterbury 3000m Championships where he was really good 4th, behind his twin brother Joel.

Last weekend, Will travelled to Taranaki where he contested the New Zealand Secondary Schools Triathlon. After some overnight rain, the day dawned fine, with some great conditions. In what was a keenly contested affair, Will placed 4th in an excellent time of 38.27.

Will’s interest in Triathlon started at Intermediate school, where he contested the Canterbury Primary Schools event. In his first year at Boys’ in 2020, he travelled to Wanaka for the National Schools event. He enjoyed those events and has been leaning more that way with his sporting participation over the past couple of years. He feels that his running is still his strongest discipline and is keen to work more on his cycling and swimming in particular as the distances increase as Will tackles the senior grades.

This winter, Will intends to play rugby and has his sights set on the National Cross Country in Hawera.
